The series follows the lives of two half-brothers, Lucas Scott and Nathan Scott, who compete for positions on their school's basketball team. But basketball is not the only thing that makes them trade between kinship and rivalry. There are also friends' hearts.
The grittier storylines, as well as the departure of some of the main characters in later years, may not appeal to fans of the show's earlier seasons. But One Tree Hill still has the potential to appeal to a new generation of teens.
One Tree Hill will likely be cast as a "girl's" show (much like Dawson's), despite its focus on male athletes. This doesn't mean boys won't watch it, just that they won't talk about it.
The young audience for which One Tree Hill is aimed may swallow all this unflinchingly. Yet if they learned anything from Dawson's Creek, a much better and smarter show, they're more likely to gag.
