In this story inspired by real characters, three girls from America, Nigeria and India are trafficked through an elaborate global network and enslaved in a Texas brothel, and must together attempt a daring escape to reclaim their freedom.
Trafficked ... manages to illustrate the sexual, physical and mental abuse that human traffickers inflict on victims to make them feel less than human.
Unfortunately, for all its social relevance and good intentions, Trafficked mainly proves that university professors don't make the best screenwriters.
Tackling a serious subject but looking like a bad after-school special, this drama is terribly forced and indelicate; it tries to deliver an important message but feels more like a cheap thriller.
What's cringe-worthy about "Trafficked," directed by Will Wallace, is how unnecessarily eroticized it is, like something from the made-for-video bin in a '90s-era Blockbuster.
