Vincent is a young man suffering from Tourette Syndrome. After the passing of his mother, Vincent finds himself at a center for those dealing with similar psychological disorders. Soon, he finds company in Marie and Alex. These unlikely companions, with clashing personalities, find themselves on a three-day journey, making for hilarious antics and unexpected new friendships. With Robert and Dr. Rose in hot pursuit, Vincent, Marie and Alex go on a life changing road trip to deliver the ashes of his mother to the ocean.
he Road Within backfires by emphasizing the same quirks and imbalances it seeks to soften. Reducing it to the genre of idiot comedy doesn't advance the cause, either.
...one of the film's greatest assets is that it doesn't try to beat the viewer over the head with particular messages or go to great lengths to create something maudlin.
The presentation of Tourette's syndrome may be authentic, but everything else about the movie - the emotions, the characters, the situations - rings false.
