Suffering with terminal cancer, Rex, a taxi driver in Broken Hill, has been given three months to live. Not wishing to die in hospital, he sets out on an epic journey to Darwin in a bid to die on his own terms. Along the way, he experiences various encounters which encourage him to re-evaluate his life.
Takes a tough subject and amiably rides it out into the Outback sunset. It's a wry film that remains upbeat without betraying its rough-around-the-edges cast of characters.
Sims probably uses a setting-sun metaphor more than necessary, but otherwise his decisions are immaculate and his film should hold audiences in thrall.
