Hazel suffers from a crippling case of agoraphobia. So much so that it causes a rift between her and her mother, Dee. Hazel and her mother decide to go on a road trip to a desert facility to help Hazel deal with her fear. When the van they are travelling in is suddenly attacked by two masked gunmen, she must confront her biggest fear and fight for her survival.
A promising setup is left to wither in the intense Albuquerque sun permeating "Big Sky," a slack agoraphobic thriller marking the English-language debut of Mexican filmmaker Jorge Michel Grau.
Evan M. Wiener's screenplay throws in too many disparate elements without developing any of them very effectively, while Grau's direction is slick but unable to provide the tension or consistency needed.
