Imagine Dragons' Mormon front man Dan Reynolds is taking on a new mission to explore how the Church treats its LGBTQ members. With the rising suicide rate amongst teens in the state of Utah, his concern with the Church's policies sends him on an unexpected path for acceptance and change.
Reynolds seems to push Believer towards sharing the spotlight by bringing in other voices; in so doing, he shows viewers exactly what the role of a good ally is.
A better doc would have used its superstar lead as a linchpin, structuring it so that he's absorbed into the cause, gradually upstaged by those directly affected by sanctioned bigotry.
"Believer"... [is] ultimately about a straight, white, married father of three who wants to have it all ways - to be seen by his worldwide fans as an enlightened and empathetic rock star while remaining faithful to his church.
