The screenplay consistently produces moments that induce chuckles, if not belly laughs. There's also just enough well-earned sentiment thrown in to provide a nice counterpoint to the farcical humor.
First-time filmmaker Jason Headley, directing from his own screenplay, keeps his concoction moving briskly and humorously, with a light sprinkling of acceptably sweet sentimentality here and there.
It's the kind of movie that shines brightest when discovered by accident: The less information you have going in, the more likely you are to be seduced by its quirky charms.
"A Bad Idea Gone Wrong" is like a decent late-night supper thrown together with random items from the back of the fridge and a cupboard or two. It can be a nice surprise, but show up too hungry and you might be left wanting.
