Kathryn Bennett is the Vice President to the administration of President James Marshall. After Air Force One is hijacked after leaving Moscow, Bennett is brought by helicopter to the White House and to the Situation Room. Bennett soon finds herself butting heads with Defense Secretary Walter Dean, who seems to have his own ideas in regards to handling the situation. Up until this point, noone knows for certain what has happened aboard Air Force One.After the plane fails to land at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, an escape pod that is supposed to contain the President is found, but is empty. A call is made directly to the Situation Room, and Bennett answers it. Her request to speak to the First Lady is denied, with the leader of the hijackers claiming that the President is no longer aboard. Bennett asks what the hijackers want, and is given a cryptic message before the line goes dead. Speculation is now rampant, as Bennett is informed that the President might be dead, but wonders why the hijacker would not tell them this.Another call is then placed shortly thereafter, with demands made for the release of captured dictator General Radek. The demand is made with the threat that a hostage will be killed every half hour until the demands are met. Bennett tries to stall for time, but the line goes dead again.Bennett then places a call to Russian President Petrov, requesting that Radek be released to secure the release of the hostages aboard Air Force One, with the hope that once the crisis is averted, they can recapture Radek. However, Petrov is not willing to give into Bennett's plan, without some proof that the President is alive.A half-hour passes, and the hijacker calls back, wanting to know if Radek has been released. Bennett attempts to stall for time, claiming she has spoken to the Russian President, but that they are still working things out, and will need more time. The hijacker responds by shooting National Security Advisor Jack Doherty, claiming that the NSA has bought Bennett another 30 minutes.Shortly after the call, a satellite phone call is received by the switchboard and patched through, when the caller claims to be the President. The Situation Room is relieved to hear his voice, but note that he is in a hostile situation. Marshall cryptically gives orders over the phone to have one of the plane's F-15 escorts fire on the plane, hoping the countermeasures of the plane will help. Bennett says this is a direct order, and it is relayed.Once the measures have allowed Marshall to get the upperhand, he speaks to the Situation Room, but requesting a private line to speak to Bennett when word comes of the demands to release Radek. After Marshall attempts to cause the plane to leak fuel, the hijacker calls Bennett back, requesting a midair refueling. Bennett again attempts to stall, claiming that if they land the plane for refueling, they can trade hostages for fuel. This request is met with a threat that a hostage will be killed every minute until the plane is either refueled in the air or crashes. Bennett gives into the demands.A new obstacle emerges when the news network CNN reports of a rumor that Air Force One has crashed. Bennett calls for a press conference, at which she finally reveals the hijacking of the plane. Bennett gives scant details, except to say that they are working to resolve the issue, and that James Marshall is still the President. After the press conference, a telephone call is made, in which the hijacker claims he now has captured the President, and calls for the F-15 escort to turn back at the border to Kazhakstan. Bennett gives into this request. Word is soon given that Marshall has contacted Petrov and that Radek will be released. Walter Dean presents Bennett with a form signed by the Joint Chiefs, but with a line for Bennett's signature. The form would remove Marshall's power, as Dean explains that he is not acting as a President but as a father and a husband, and not thinking in terms of his Presidential responsibilities. Bennett however, refuses to sign. The situation in the war room improves, as word comes that Radek is killed, and the President and some of his crew have retaken the plane. Bennett is informed shortly thereafter that severl MIG fighters have been dispatched and are heading towards Air Force One. Bennett then requests the F-15's that turned back at Kazahkstan's border move in to intercept them. This move averts the attack but Air Force One is still damaged, and a mid-air rescue takes place.Once the President has been rescued, Bennett tears up the executive order she was handed. Show less «
