One of Dr. Suess's characters in the book The Lorax, The Once-ler is an old man with green gloves who lives in a small tower by himself. He lives in self-guilt and doubt that what he has done will never change. As a young man he left home in search for the perfect material to make his Thneeds, and after stumbling upon a forest he proceeded to first make friends with all of the animals - including the ever-wary Lorax, the guardian of the forest - before betraying each and every one of them for self-greed.
