Sybil Gordon was a British soprano, best remembered for her performances in Gilbert & Sullivan roles with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company from 1926 to 1931.In the film Chariots of Fire , she is depicted as the fiancee of Harold Abrahams. This is artistic license: Abrahams' actual fiancee was minor Gilbert & Sullivan mezzo-soprano Sybil Evers, whom Abrahams did not meet until a decade after the 1924 Olympics, and who performed with the D'Oyly Carte 1930-1931. Another artistic license in the film is Sybil singing Yum-Yum in The Mikado ; this was not a role that either Sybil Gordon or Sybil Evers sang at D'Oyly Carte.Sybil Gordon is presumed to appear in the chorus of the 1926 film of The Mikado . She also sings Fiametta in the acclaimed 1927 D'Oyly Carte recording of The Gondoliers . Show less «
