Peter Quill was born when many of the planets were in alignment. His father saw no resemblance to himself and died of a heart attack while accusing Peters mother of infidelity. When Peter came home from school one day, he witnesses two aliens killing his mother, in an attempt to end the Spartoi bloodline. Peter is chased by the but grabs a shotgun and manages to kill them.Peter eventually becomes a trainee NASA astronaut. An alien named Master of the Sun visits a space station, offering the mantle of Starlord to a worthy candidate. When Peter volunteers, though, he is rejected in favor of a colleague. Quill is outraged and is returned to Earth to be discharged. Instead, he steals a scout ship and returns to the space station to take his colleagues place. Peter becomes Starlord and is given a sentient vessel called Ship. Peter finally learns his father is Jason of Spartax, the second son of the galactic Emperor and the Starlord before him.
