Sheriff Leigh Brackett is a man who enjoyed the peace and quiet of law enforcement in Haddonfield, Illinois. Apart from minor problems, like High School students parking and getting high, his city was an orderly place, where people stopped to say, hello to one another on the streets, and children were safe to walk unescorted to school.Haddonfield had only one famous crime when Brackett took over as sheriff, a six year old boy named Michael Myers, who had killed his older sister. This darkened the reputation of the town for years to come, and Brackett had worked hard to assure tourists and the town that this was a freak incident, not a curse that hung on the town or the abandoned house where it happened. Then, fifteen years later, a psychiatrist named Sam Loomis suddenly turned up in town, ranting that Michael Myers had escaped and was headed back to Haddonfield, to finish what he had started. At first Brackett thought (and hoped) that the man was insane, or just incorrect, but then the bodies of teenagers - including his own daughter were discovered, murdered in brutal fashion. Attempts by Brackett and Loomis to capture or kill the lunatic were consistently thwarted, until Myers was trapped in a burning hospital where Laurie Strode (actually Myers's other sister) had been taken after being injured in Michael's first attempt to kill her.Brackett retired before Loomis and the killer both returned to Haddonfield again, some years later.
