(by Dane Youssef)A sharp, seemingly square high-school kid with a wiry build and hyperkinetic energy, Seth Abrhams is a student at the private prep school where our dear heroine Caroline Wakefield goes to. And the two are a couple, which is a secret to everyone except their friends.Just as Caroline herself is the third place at the top of the school academically, Seth himself is a high-pedigree scholar. He's not just an overachieving brain. He's very handy with cocaine and other such drugs.Yes, Seth is a whiz at a lot of things, particularly mixing narcs. Seth's not just a coke-head. He mixes highs. He dabbles and mixes like crazy with beer, marijuana, among others. When we first meet him, he and his friends are hanging out at Caroline Wakefield's place after school in the sunny (though cool tinted blue filmed by director Steven Soderberg) suburban place in Cincinnati, Ohio.Seth's father is a research scientist--You know, the kind that spends a lot of time out-of-the-country and overseas, miles away from his son.Seth is closer with Caroline Wakefield. One night at her place, Caroline and the rest of her friends are doing what they usually do when the weekend rolls around--getting smashed with hard illegal drugs. The children are all getting completely bombed. Seth himself in kicking ass on PowerBooks G-3, p'wning someone named Mad Max from Omaha.Apparently the apple doesn't fall all that far from the tree. Seth's parents aren't just plain clueless. They think their little bundle of joy is clean, though Seth's own parents themselves live to mix lots of pills and booze. Caroline's father, one Judge Robert--the new drug czar of the United States knows about what extracurricular after-school hobbies her and her friends are doing. One inevitable night at a party (God only knows how late), the prep-school overachievers are at it again using and misusing every single intoxicating substance they can get their dirty little hands on. They have a philosophical conversation about themselves and their place in this cruel, cold, fast, rapidly-changing universe. Under very strong influence, they open themselves up, revealing their true selves. So much eye-opening in one night. The dope will do that stuff to people. Bowman even admits to thinking about Seth and Carol together when abusing his own body.Things are going well, but then their friend Fucked-Up Bowman fucks up with all the stuff he's taken and nearly expires then and there. Oh, shit. What are they to do? They scream, they panic. Then they brainstorm. They try to dump the body at a hospital, but are caught right in the middle of their getaway. He and Caroline have more than just a high-school romance. They have the coke. The high. And great sex. Sex under the influence. Seth himself is an outspoken advocate of drugs and often speaks highly of narcotics and all they've done for this country and everyone in it. He's well-versed and knows all about every form of dope, its origins, it's makers and the vast consumers inside-and-out. Almost like a spokesman for the whole existence of hard drugs. When Caroline's mum and dad ask her about this boy Seth, who was driving. She's pretty vague. Even though she was talking about him pretty intimately a while ago, she says she doesn't know him very well. Carol describes him half-heartedly as like, the only one who was dealing with the situation. He'd definitely had a few beers, but it's not like he wanted to drive. Seth takes Caroline to all his favorite haunts. You know--the kind of haunts where cocaine and other such are available for all. For a upper-class yuppie kid born into money, he sure knows a hell of a lot about seedy places to score drugs in inner-cities. And he takes Caroline along with him, into this world. Guaranteeing that she will become a permanent part of it. Robert knows that Carol's boyfriend Seth knows things about her he doesn't. She tells him things she won't tell Robert. So Robert goes to the Ivy League High School and literally drags Seth out. They go on a hunt for the ill-fated Caroline. Luckily, Seth just happens to every possible place in town where one can score big.But Robert nearly loses it all when he attempts to question a possible source. Where and when will they find the poor little Caroline? Where will she turn up?In perhaps the worst place possible...(by Dane Youssef)
