The lovely soft-spoken red-haired daughter of a deceased mine-inspector, Sarah has long been widely suspected of murdering her father, but was never convicted due to lack of conclusive evidence and Sarah's being a minor at the time of the murder. Her overbearing and egotistical older brother Earl had actually been the murderer, committing the crime during an altercation with their father upon his unexpectedly discovering Earl's long history of molesting his sister. Sarah, an avid bee-keeper, is initially wary and distrustful of Jack, but after his financially assisting her by buying a large number of her jars of honey at the local grocery store, and then his subsequently convincing her that he is indeed working for a worthy cause, Sarah gradually takes a liking to Jack and actively begins to assist him in his efforts to convict Hanner & Co. She also agrees to elope with Jack after his environmental-cleanup work in her town is complete.
