Lieutenant Commander Sam Axe, USN (ret.) is a suave former SEAL who has taken up residence in Miami. He spent his days chasing wealthy women and drinking until his old friend Michael Weston is burned and ends up in Miami. Now he spends his days chasing wealthy women, drinking, and supporting to Michael. Sam provides Michael with assistance whenever Michael needs it by bugging phones, providing tactical support, watching over his mother, or gathering intelligence on the people that burned Michael. Sam has many friends in the various agencies including the FBI and CIA and frequently uses his contacts to provide Michael with valuable information, both for uncovering the burn notice and for their different jobs in Miami. For a time Sam was being blackmailed by the FBI to provide details on Michael's life. Sam agreed to do so with Michael's consent and provided them with the bare essentials of Mike's life, never compromising his friend. Sam's quick thinking, former SEAL experience and big mouth has provided an invaluable service to Michael's quest to find the people that burned him. Due to their former service together Sam and Michael have somewhat of an unspoken language. From just mentioning a former mission or a simple hand signal, they know what each is thinking and go to length's, sometimes extreme, to provide back-up.Sam Axe is played by Bruce Campbell.
