In The Misfits, the character of Roslyn is an early-30's blond dance teacher who has come to Reno, Nevada to obtain a divorce from her husband, played by Kevin McCarthy. We know almost nothing of Roslyn's background but we see in her character a luminous, ethereal girl much like Marilyn Monroe who played her. The screenplay for The Misfits was written by Marilyn's husband at the time, Arthur Miller, and her character was only a thinly-veiled portrait of Marilyn Monroe. Her character evokes many of the same feelings and emotions as did Marilyn but at the end of the movie,Roslyn is seen with Gay Langland, played by Clark Gable in his final film, as they drive off together in the night. The viewer is left to ponder whether Roslyn and Gay formed a long-lasting relationship and what was tobe the ultimate fate of the two lovers.
