Rose is portrayed as a homely young girl. However you have to imagine her that way because the actress is actually quite cute. Rose is shy and timid. She's a Peace not War type of person living life through her beloved folk songs. Early in the film, she is humiliated and hurt as she finds the only reason for her date is that she is ugly. Her spirit is ravashing in its ability to forgive and give Eddie a second chance. As her character develops in the film we find a believable rise of her inner beauty. Even though her date, Eddie is probably the best looking guy she ever dated, she's quick to be honest and demand certain standards of him. The interaction between Rose and Eddie brings out the very best character in Eddie.Rose is steadfast and loyal. Caring for the coffeshop for her mother and raising a young child that we assume must be Eddie's. She accepts Eddie's return from war and to her as something she expected all along.Rose is easily one of my favorite characters of all time. It's difficult for me to believe that Lili Taylor failed to win an Oscar for her performance. Show less «
