Phil Horace became interested in managing The Wonders when he heard them perform at Filapiano's Pizzaria, and purchasing one of their records of the song 'That Thing You Do.' Phil then met with the group, and convinced them that he could help them play larger venues in Pennsylvania, as well as get their song played on the radio.Within 7-10 days of meeting with the band, and signing a contract with them, Phil managed to get the record played on the radio, and booked the group to play in Pittsburgh, PA. It was here that he met with Mr White, representing Playtone Records. Feeling the band could move on to bigger and better things, Phil stepped down as the group's manager, and the Wonders came under the care of Playtone Records.
