J. D. Tippit (September 18, 1924 November 22, 1963) was an American police officer with the Dallas Police Department. On November 22. 1963, Tippit was shot and killed on a Dallas street approximately 45 minutes after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Tippit's killer was, according to five federal government investigations, former Marine Lee Harvey Oswald. Oswald's initial arrest was for Tippit's murder, not Kennedy's. Oswald denied shooting anybody and Jack Ruby murdered Oswald before Oswald could be tried for the murders of either Tippit or Kennedy. Show less «
