Born into poverty to Ronald and Eva Hawker on Sep 24, 1963, Evelyn Hawker was from a very young age, made fun of by the other children. Her father and mother both school teachers, still with their income combined did not earn enough for the necessary facial surgeries for Evelyn to ever be considered normal .Not to be outsmarted by the foolishness of children, Evelyn took to books and music to fill the void of friends in her life. She graduated early from high school and by the time she was sixteen, she had already entered Des Moines Area Community College where she began extensive studies in physiology, chemistry, and biology. She interned for a short stint at Goodrell Middle School as an assistant biology teacher but soon found out how cruel teens can really be. Night after night she would go home in tears from the names called her by the students, and sometimes even her clothes were stained and ruined from food thrown at her in jest in the lunchroom cafeteria.School hopping from city to city, became a norm for Ms. Hawker as she tried desperately to land a permanent job while secretly hoping to find the happiness that seemed to evade her. Often misunderstood, she lashed out at others as a survival technique before they could make fun of her. It wasn't until she received a call from Principal Sinclair who offered her an actual teacher position in his private school that things began to finally turn around for Ms. Hawker.
