Whilst it would be easy to assume the 'Mendez' in Beneath the Planet of the Apes is either a descendent of or even the same character (his life strangely extended) as the 'Mendez' in Battle For the Planet of the Apes -- David Gerrold assumes the former in his novelisation of Battle -- this ignores one crucial geographical anomaly: the mutants in Beneath live below the remains of New York, whilst the radiation-damaged survivors in Battle have sought shelter below what is left of Los Angeles.
