Mathilda is a main character within Leon; she is a twelve year old girl with mental issues who travels with Leon himself. During the beginning of the film we see how Mathilda is treated by her family, which is poorly; the only strong attachment she seems to hold is that between her and her little brother. Mathildas family is killed and Mathilda moves in with Leon (her neighbour at the time) who teaches her how to be an assassin so she can get revenge on the man who killed her brother but she soon finds being an assassin isn't as easy as Leon makes it seem. At many points in the film it is hard to tell whether the character is a child or a woman, because of the way she behaves and how she dresses. She is often found behaving in an adult manner (bringing the shopping in, looking after her brother, acting calmly in stressful situations etc.) but also she is seen watching cartoons and arguing with her sister. The way she dresses often depicts adulthood, because she is shown wearing a choker, boots and a short skirt. Also she has dark hair in a bob, which is generally considered an adult style.
