Daughter of Rajput king Raja Chhatrasal of Bundelkhand, and his muslim wife Ruhani Begum, Mastani is a multi-talented warrior princess. She is skilled in combat, proficient in dance and has a wit that can outsmart any adversary. In Peshwa Bajirao, she finds her soulmate and falls in love with him. Her love for Bajirao then becomes her all-consuming passion. She travels to Pune to win Bajirao over. There, she suffers numerous outrages and gets shunned because of her muslim lineage. That however does not detract her from pursuing her quest for Bajirao. The more her adversaries try to distance her from Bajirao, the closer they find her getting to him. Eventually, Mastani and Bajirao marry. They even have a son (Shamsher Bahadur). However, their marriage is not officially recognized by her in-laws and the society in general. Mastani comes to be seen only as Bajirao's mistress. Mastani is never bitter to her in-laws or anyone else, and is content in her relationship with Bajirao. Eventually, when Bajirao is away on a military expedition, her in-laws incarcerate her. She dies in prison shortly thereafter. She dies the same time as Bajirao. Show less «
