George Herrick was the Marshal of the Court during the Salem Witch trails, although the character based on him in The Crucible doesn't share his views, so is often renamed to John Willard who was a constable at the time. Willard doubted the claims of witchcraft and later (after the period covered by the play), refused to make further arrests leading to him also being accused of witchcraft and hung. Show less «
