Marie DeSalle is the sexy, mysterious singer/songwriter who serves as the object of desire for Rob Gordon, the protagonist of the film High Fidelity. She is played by Lisa BonetMarie is the personification of all that Rob thinks he wants in a woman: beautiful, sultry, talented, and just as obsessed with music as he is. She is his soul mate as far as surface goes, but in the end, after she and Rob have sex, it is shown that Marie thinks of sex as an inalienable human right, and the romantic dreams Rob has over her are dashed. In the original novel on which the film is based, Marie DESalle is Marie LASalle, an American musician working in London, which is where the novel is based. Marie also plays a significantly larger part in Rob's life. In the film, she disappears out of his life as quickly as she appeared. In the novel, she and Rob remain good friends and she helps to save his semi-failing store by making several appearances and helping to piece together the concert which is held at the end of both the film and novel.
