Marcus Aemilius Lepidus (88 or 89 BC - 12 or 13 BC) was an ardent supporter of Julius Caesar. Once Caesar became dictator, he promoted Lepidus to Magister Equitum ( Master of the Horse ), or a main lieutenant. After the death of Julius Caesar he aligned himself with Antony, however when Octavian became dictator Augustus Caesar, he tried to stay neutral between them. His attempt was a failure. Eventually he was stripped of all his titles, save Pontifex Maximus ( High Priest ).
