Louis Canning is an opposing counsel whom Alicia Florrick faces in court many times. He has tardive dyskinesia, a condition which gives him visual tremors and which he has no shame about using to his advantage to elicit sympathy in court. He typically represents pharmaceutical companies or other big business when class action suits are brought against them. Although Alicia is initially annoyed and angered by his sometimes underhanded maneuvers, he comes to respect her talents as a litigator. He is cynical and shrewd, but claims to place family above work. He joins forces with Patti Nyholm, another foe of Lockhart/Gardner, at the end of season three to attempt to take the firm down.
