Kevin Flynn started off as a young computer game creator and programmer. His games were eventually stolen by another collegue named Ed Dillinger. Dillinger passed off the games as his own and Flynn lost his job when he tried to say that Dillinger stole his ideas. Unemployed, Flynn financed an arcade with all his games in and most nights people watch him play his video games until they are completed. Alan approached him about some dodgy dealings at the factory where Dillinger took over. Flynn obliged and the Master Computer transferred him from the real world and zapped him into a computer world called The Grid . Flynn proved more than a match of the world and the evil Sark by helping Tron destroy the MCP and Sark before being able to return to the real world a hero. Dillinger loses his job when the truth about his games comes to light and Flynn takes his rightful place as President of Encom. After his journey inside The Grid, Kevin Flynn became enamored with the digital world, feeling that the future of mankind lay somewhere inside the computer. Acquiring the necessary equipment, Flynn set up a secret office-space with computer hardware in his arcade. Between his duties as President of ENCOM and caring for his son Sam (whose mother passed away when he was very young), Kevin continued to form his plans for a Perfect World within the computer system. Kevin ported over the security program known as Tron that his friend Alan Bradley had created. Kevin also created a new rendition of a previous program, called CLU. CLU was charged with helping Kevin to design the Perfect System, but Kevin's attention was diverted from this original 'command,' with the coming of the ISO's, beings who came into existence within the system. Flynn grew to consider their digital dna a miracle that could benefit mankind, and all but forgot about his original commands to CLU.Kevin soon realized he had made an error when CLU sought to destroy him, feeling that Kevin was a flaw in the plan to create the Perfect System. Kevin managed to escape with Tron protecting him. Kevin even attempted to fight back, but CLU's forces over-powered everything he tried. Kevin then went into hiding in the Outlands of the Grid, after CLU killed the ISO's, and the portal to the real world closed. However, Kevin was able to rescue one, a female ISO named Quorra. The two studied and meditated for over 20 years, before Kevin's son Sam was drawn into the system by CLU. Though his son wishes to save him, Kevin is unsure about leaving, or setting foot on the Grid, where CLU most likely is waiting for him. It is only when Sam seeks help within the Grid does Kevin finally leave his safehouse. However, the trip into the Grid leads to his identity disc being taken, and Quorra being damaged. Even so, Kevin and Sam take Quorra aboard a Solar Sailor, headed towards the portal. Kevin manages to fix Quorra and reveal to his son that she is the last of the ISO's, before going into a meditative state. This is broken when the Solar Sailor ends up arriving at a ship of CLU's. When a guard is seen looking for them, Quorra distracts him, only for Kevin to realize that the guard is a reprogrammed TRON. Kevin manages to hijack a lightjet, with Sam rescuing Quorra and Kevin's identity disc. The three manage to escape in an aerial dogfight that ensues, before reaching the portal, where CLU has already arrived. Kevin confronts his 'flawed' creation, explaining that he made mistakes in telling the program to achieve perfection, in that it is altogether unknowable. Even though he apologizes for what he has done, Kevin is attacked by CLU, who then attempts to go after Sam and Quorra. Kevin manages to distract CLU, who attempts to take Kevin's identity disc...only to find that Kevin switched his disc with that of Quorra's.CLU attempts to go after Quorra and Sam who are attempting to escape through the portal, when Kevin uses his powers as the Creator of the Grid, to draw CLU back into him, saving his son and Quorra, but disappearing in a flash of light that obliterates a number of items around the sea of simulation. It is never made clear if Kevin is still alive or dead, but now, a gleaming star hangs over the place where the Portal once was...maybe signifying that Kevin has become 'part' of the Grid in some way.
