Karen is one third of Tiffany and Brittany Wilson's trio of good friends. We are first introduced to Karen when FBI agents Kevin Copeland and Marcus Copeland, who are posing as the rich Wilson sisters, bump into her at The Hamptons. She is with the other two women in the trio, Tori and Lisa.Despite how familiar she is with the [fake] Wilson sisters, it is mentioned that none of the trio have seen the sisters for over a year, suggesting either a significant difference in location or a more shallow friendship.Karen may be seen as not particularly bright. Although neither her nor her two friends realise the sisters are being impersonated, Tori and Lisa do notice certain changes, whereas Karen doesn't pick up on anything in particular until Tori mentions something first.Karen is seeing Heath, the boyfriend of Heather Vandergeld (one of two sisters described as the Wilson sisters' sworn enemies ). The relationship she has with Heath appears to have a negative affect on her self-esteem; it is implied that she cares deeply for him but that he only uses her for sex. Her feelings for him seem to cloud her judgement (when Tori questions why Karen sees him, she asks Tori to give him a break because his aunt just died... three years ago ). She becomes distraught over his official relationship with Heather on more than one occasion, believing that at some point he will finish with the Vandergeld sister and officially start dating her instead.During one occasion when she is upset over Heath, Karen lets slip to the [fake] Wilson sisters that the Vandergeld family, who are supposed to be extremely rich, are actually broke and had to borrow money from her father. By doing this, she un-wittingly gives FBI agents Kevin and Marcus the (correct) idea that the Vandergeld family might be behind the suspected kidnap attempt of Brittany and Tiffany Wilson. (We can assume from this that Karen's family are quite well-off.)She and her friends may also be interpreted as rather immature for their age. In the same way that school girls are often portrayed, the trio are very excitable about subjectively shallow activities, such as shopping. They insist on going to the restroom together, and hold a regular slumber party, much as younger girls might. In spite of this, the young women appear to have a strong bond. They do not quarrel even when they disagree with each other, and although they seem disgusted by [fake] Tiffany Wilson's bathroom problems, they kindly ask if she is all right, and then wait outside and do not mention the embarrassing incident again.Although it is implied that Karen and her friends are sexually active, they ask the [fake] Wilson sisters for tips on how best to perform oral sex on a male - perhaps suggesting that they haven't had much experience or that they are not confident in their sexual abilities. Here they again display an immature side by becoming very giggly about having a sex toy to demonstrate on.Despite this, there are moments where Karen shows a more sexually confident side. When helping to dress [fake] Brittany Wilson, she is quite aggressive about fitting Brittany into smaller clothes to show off her figure, and she later dances seductively with Lisa in the hope of arousing Heath.Throughout most of the film, Karen could be described as more of a follower than a leader. She does not take charge or lead the group in any particular action. For example, it is Tori who takes Karen and the others to the Magazine Reception and, later, shopping. However, by the end of the film she appears to be a lot more confident and willing to lead. It is she who notices the Vandergeld sisters preparing to pour paint on the [fake] Wilson sisters, and it is she who reacts to this. For once, she leads Tori and Lisa by choosing to tilt the balcony on which the Vandergeld sisters are stood, resulting in the siblings falling onto a fashion show stage (and ending up with the paint over their own heads instead). Her new-found confidence also shows when she tells Heath that she refuses to let him continue using her, thus ending their relationship. The film ends with Karen, Tori, and Lisa admitting that they liked the Wilson sisters better when the FBI agents were pretending to be them, and with the agents assuring the trio that they will still see each other.
