John Greer is one of many aliases of the primary antagonist of the CBS series Person of Interest . He is portrayed by the series creator Jonathan Nolan's uncle, John Nolan. The character is first introduced in Season 2, and from there he becomes the most frequent nemesis for Harold Finch, John Reese and their team. He is characterized as cold, ruthless and unfeeling, with an uncanny ability to outthink his enemies' every move.A former MI6 operative during the Cold War, Greer became disillusioned with the concept of loyalty to borders and governments, and believed that such things would become irrelevant as we move toward the future. As a representative of Decima Technologies, Greer carried our various nefarious missions which would lead to the ultimate end game of building an advanced super AI, called Samaritan, with the purposes of indexing and controlling modern society; everything from government down to ordinary citizens' lives.By the series' end, the character's birth name was never revealed.
