Jason Nesmith played Commander Peter Quincy Taggert on the 1980s television series Galaxy Quest . Since the show's cancellation, Mr. Nesmith and the other actors from the Galaxy Quest series have made a living making personal appearances at Galaxy Quest Conventions, signing autographs for the hoards of Galaxians , and also making personal appearances at store grand openings, etc. Mr. Nesmith alienated many of his former castmates by booking personal appearances without them.After meeting the Thermians , a race of alien beings who receieved the Galaxy Quest episodes in space, and thought they were historical documents , Jason convinced his fellow castmates to go with him to the spaceship they had built, modeled after the NSEA Protector from the series. After some hesitation, the cast goes with him. The Thermians believe they are their characters from the series. The cast actually steps up, and saves the day, much in the same way their character's would do on the Galaxy Quest TV series.There is talk of Galaxy Quest returning to TV, due to the overwhelming popularity of the series reruns, even 20 years after cancellation.
