Glendon Pequod Bateman is a retired University professor and astounding intellectual with both a cantankerous view on society and a humble, self-deprecating sense of humour. It is these qualities that make Glen and Stu best friends despite the massive age gap and a perfect partnership, Glen does the talking and Stu does the drinking.Rather than be scared or at loss, when the human race dies out, Glen is on the contrary; content in his own world and happy to live out his last days watching nature reclaim the earth, eating, drinking and painting despite the fact he's a terrible painter. His best friend before Stu was Kojak, a stray dog that he took in after it's owner died leaving him scared and fending for himself. Glen is a strong character for his age and stubborn in his views on society and why men go to war with each other and it is his boundless wisdom and education that no doubt helps the protagonists rebuild before the stand.
