January 26,1880 April 5,1964, was an American five-star general and field marshal of the Philippine Army. He was Chief of Staff of the United States Army in the1930s and played a role in the Pacific theater during World War II. He received the Medal of Honor for service in the Philippines Campaign, which made him and his father Arthur MacArthur, Jr., the first father and son to be awarded this medal. He was one of only five men to rise to the rank of General of the Army in the U.S. Army, and the only man ever to become a field marshal in the Philippine Army.In 1941, he was a commander of United States Army Forces in the Far East.He led the United Nations Command in the Korean War until he was relieved of command by President Harry S. Truman on April 11, 1951. He later became Chairman of the Board of Remington Rand.
