Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin) was born in District 4, the 'fishing' district. He is tall, has bronze hair, tanned skin and green eyes. He is thought be be extremely handsome and pleasing to the eye. Finnick is flirtatious, charming and has a seductive purr to his voice.Finnick was chosen at the age of fourteen to become the male tribute for his district, for The 65th Hunger Games. He was mentored by District 4 Victor, Mags whom he becomes very close with and treat each other like family. Soon into his games he was gifted a trident thought to be the most expensive gift ever received in the history of the games. Finnick became extremely popular in the Capitol. He won by capturing other tributes in snares and spearing them with his trident. He is skilled in water combat and his fighting techniques resemble that of a Roman gladiator, the retiarius.After his victory, Finnick was forced into prostitution by President Snow (Donald Sutherland). Instead of money, he asked for secrets from his lovers. He was assigned to be a mentor for the District 4 tributes. For the next nine years, he mentored tributes, including his true love Annie Cresta.Prior to The 75th Hunger Games, President Snow reveals that the tributes can only be reaped from the existing pool of victors. Finnick is chosen to reenter the arena along with Mags, who volunteered for Annie. Before the tribute parade, Finnick meets Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) and Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) for the first time. He flirts with her, asking her for secrets and complimenting her appearance. During training, Finnick notices Katniss at the knot-tying station and goes over to finish a knot she's been working on. Later that day Finnick finds Katniss again and introduces her to Mags, whom Katniss ends up liking a lot. In tribute interviews, he recites a love poem to a 'special someone' meaning Annie. Dozens of Capitol citizens faint because they believe it is about them. He, along with every other victor, holds hands together at the end of the interviews as a sign of rebellion.Before the games begin, Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) Katniss' friend and mentor, gives Finnick a gold bracelet that Katniss had seen him wearing previously. This would ensure Katniss' acceptance of an alliance in the arena. Finnick is also one of the tributes told about the rebellion and whom has vowed to protect Katniss with his life.At the beginning of the games, Finnick is the second to arrive at the Cornucopia after Katniss, gaining a trident and a net. He startles Katniss with his proposal for an alliance, to which she accepts at the sight of the bracelet. The pair find Mags and soon after Peeta who is fighting underwater with another tribute. Finnick jumps in and reaches Peeta just after he's killed his opponent and helps him to land. The four form an alliance and with Mags being carried by Finnick, retreat into the jungle. Peeta walks into a forcefeild therefore being knocked unconscious, until Finnick revives him. With Katniss a mess at the sight of Peeta unconscious, this is when Finnick believes Katniss really does love Peeta. After being sent a spile by Haymitch, the four attempt to sleep.After being awoken by Katniss screaming, the tributes flee to escape a cloud of poisonous fog. Peeta is harmed by the fog and cannot continue so Mags scarifies herself in order for Finnick to carry him instead of her. Once the trio escape to safety, Katniss and Peeta help Finnick into a pool of water to relieve him of the poisonous pustules he received due to the fog. Distraught after losing Mags, Finnick becomes quiet until he notices a pack of monkeys readying themselves to attack the trio. After fighting them off, they escape to the beach where Finnick fishes for food. Here they are met with Johanna (Jena Malone), Beetee (Jeffery Wright) and Wiress - tributes and long time friends of Finnicks. The six form an alliance until Wiress is killed by Gloss. The remaining five devise a plan to kill all the other tributes until they are interrupted by jabberjays - birds that perfectly recite and noise they hear. Finnick can hear Annie's voice, screaming out for him to help her, suggesting that she is being tortured. He and Katniss are then cut off from the rest of the alliance by a forcefield and both blackout. After the forcefield disappears and they are reunited with the alliance, Johanna reassures them that the people of the voices they heard are alive and safe, explaining the voices can be faked. Distraught, Finnick becomes quiet and tries to relax in the sea water.Later that night, Finnick and Peeta assist Beetee with his plan, while Katniss and Johanna set up the electric coil trap. Both parties are attacked and Finnick runs to protect Katniss only for Katniss to almost shoot him as she's confused and scared. He attempts to stop Katniss from electrocuting herself while she destroys the arena. A District 13 hovercraft rescues Finnick, Katniss and Beetee, leaving the others in the hands of the Capitol. He converses with Haymitch and Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman) head gamemaker - in the hovercraft until Katniss awakens and lashes out at Haymitch for not saving Peeta and Johanna where she is later sedated. They arrive back in District 13 and all receive medical attention.Left with his thoughts, Finnick becomes unstable at the thought of Annie being captured by the Capitol. He tells an also severely unstable Katniss that he wishes Annie, Johanna, Peeta and all the others would just die so that they didn't have to suffer anymore. After Katniss becomes unable to continue making propaganda, Finnick steps in and nationally airs him revealing all the secrets he learned from his 'lovers'. This included admitting he was forced into selling his body, and that President Snow kills off any competition he has for being president. Weeks later, District 13 carry out a rescue mission reuniting Finnick and Annie leaving them inseparable.As Peeta had undergone torture and memory alteration in the Capitol, Finnick becomes an expert on Peeta's memories of his two times in the arena and helped him restore his true memories.Finnick and Annie get married and Annie becomes pregnant. Finnick is later killed in the war leaving him to have never met his only son. Show less «
