DANIEL FARADAY, a/k/a EZEKIEL, in the Outer Limits (1995) episode Final Appeal, was a cross between Nedd Ludd and Guy Fawkes. He was an early associate of Dr. Theresa Givens while the two were contractors at the National Security Agency in 1988. In the course of that collaboration, Dr. Givens discovered the tempore discernus, the part of the cerebral cortex that, in its early stage of development (seven months' gestation), is powerful enough to establish a teleportation portal from one place to another in space and time.Dr. Givens rebuffed his romantic advances. Which drove him, quite simply, insane. He broke into her laboratory and stole enough information to let him build a Time Portal like hers. He used this to journey backward and forward through time. He became convinced that his mission was to stop all technological development. He might, or might not, have had a role in the Anti-technology Codes of 2060. He showed up at the hearing of the appeal of United States v. Givens, with a cold-fusion device strapped to his vest. Using this, he forced the five-member Court to grant him a hearing. The Court, and Dr. Givens, repeatedly tried to remind him of the irony of the situation he created, and his own hypocrisy. Neither of which he could appreciate. In the end, he teleported away from that hearing, to the Washington, D.C. of the American Centennial (4 July 1876). His cold-fusion bomb vest was set to detonate directly after the court voted 3-2 to invalidate the Anti-technology Codes. WIth the result that the Codes remained in place, after his bomb wiped out Dr. Givens, her lawyer, the Solicitor-General, the Court, and most of Washington. When last we see him, he is offering a maniacal toast to the future, and warning people to beware of him. Show less «
