August Rush is a orphan who's real name is Evan Taylor. Evan grew up in an orphanage, believing his parents would come for him. He believed he got the gift of music from them, which he did. After a while, he decides that if his parents wont come to him, he'll go find them. So Evan heads runs away from the orphanage and heads to New York.In New York, Evan meets a boy named Arthur, who introduces him to an old theater full of orphans who play music. There he meets Wizard (Robin Williams) who discovers Evan's talent as a musician and decides to use Evan to make himself rich. He tells Evan that his new stage name is August Rush and that he can't tell anyone his name is Evan Taylor ever again. Now known as August, he finds himself stuck in Wizard's world of haggling and street performing. August is a child prodigy, managing to play an instrument he's set in front of if given the time to explore it's possibilities. Wizard is determined to sell August as a new music artist at a record company. When the cops raid the theater, Wizard helps August escape and tells him they'll meet up in the arch in the square. However, August runs away to a shabbier end of town, where he hears a black church choir singing. He finds refuge under a young girl's bed and she teaches him briefly to read music. The next day, August has covered the walls of the church in apparently random music compositions and has played the organs in the church. He's taken by the reverend to the finest music school in New York. There, he is recognized for his talent and taught new instruments and classical music. He composes a song entitled 'August Rhapsody' that he believes will find his parents if they hear it. The school is so impressed by it that they ask permission to use it in their spring concert. August easily agrees because thousands of people will be able to hear it and he wants to find his parents. However, during rehearsal, Wizard shows up and blackmails August into leaving the school and returning to street performing until they can catch a record deal. While Wizard talks to some people on the phone, August sits with a guitar in the park. While he waits for Wizard, he meets a man who introduces himself as Louis and they play guitar together to pass the time.Louis is amazed at August's talent since he's only been playing for 6 months, where Louis has been playing most of his life. August doesn't know it, and neither does Louis, but Louis is his father - the father he's been looking for the whole movie.August tells Louis that he's August Rush and he has a concert being performed tonight but that he can't go. Louis asks him why and August says it's complicated. Louis tells August that if he had a concert playing, he wouldn't miss it for the world because even when the world turns against you, you can always wrap yourself in your music.Wizard calls August over and Louis says goodbye before leaving August alone again with Wizard.August finally stands up to Wizard when he can hear the concert starting from where he stands in the subway. Wizard tries to stop August from going but Arthur hits him over the head with a guitar.August is running out of the subway but stops to listen to someone playing at the concert. He smiles like he can tell it's his mother playing and then hurries out to get ready to conduct his composition.By the time August takes the stage, his mother is gone and walking off, probably to home. However, August is just happy to be away from Wizard and playing his music. As he conducts and has a good time, his parents meet up in the audience. Then, August turns around just before his Rhapsody is complete and sees his parents in the front row, smiling at him. He smiles back. Show less «
