Emily Merchant was born in 1840. In her late 20s, her father selfishly arranged her to be married to the wealthy Lord Henry Merchant, whom Emily didn't love. Shortly after the wedding, Emily came across a rip in time called an Anomaly, so passed through. She joined a small group of people who had also gotten lost in time, and spent 3 years with them. Emily befriended Charlotte Cameron and Ethan Dobrowski, an insane man who Charlotte kept under control.When Charlotte got sick, Emily and Ethan took her to the present day (2011) to find a cure, but were too late. Charlotte died and Emily made it back through the Anomaly, only for a man named Matt to follow her and save her from Tree Creepers. Emily was sent to hospital, but escaped and eavesdropped on the team who's job was to track and deal with Anomalies. Worried she'd get locked up, Emily fled but Matt found her, and together they managed to defeat an escaped Tree Creeper. They told Matt's friend Abby about what happened, but not the soldier Becker.Subsequently, Emily stayed with Matt but was kidnapped and almost buried alive by Ethan until Matt stopped him. Because of this, Emily was taken to Anomaly incursions with the ARC team and stayed in the car. However, she escaped and helped deal with creatures at a former ARC member's wedding. Later, an Anomaly opened up to 1867 and Emily passed through, but found out Matt was an agent from the future sent back to stop someone from the ARC from destroying the world in the future.During her time back in the 1860s, Emily found out a Raptor was killing people, so Emily dressed in a cloak and went to the scene of the kill and pretended to be the murderer, and was dubbed Spring-Heeled Jack. When Matt passed through an Anomaly after the dinosaur, he and Emily defeated it and escaped to the present before Emily's husband could lock her up.
