Sidekicks Character BackgroundDr. Evil claims to be the son of a drunk, womanizing, self-improving Belgium baker, with low-grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery . His mother was a 15-year-old web-footed French prostitute named Chloe. He was raised by Belgians in the town of Bruges. He was given his first scribe when he was 12-years-old and at the age of 14, a Zoroastrian named Wilma ritualistically shaved his testicles. He spent his summers in Rangoon, took luge lessons, attended the British Intelligence Academy and spent six years in Evil Medical School. In Austin Powers in Goldmember, it is revealed that his real name is Dougie Powers and that he is the twin brother of Austin Powers. His father is also a renowned secret agent, Nigel Powers (portrayed by Michael Caine), who explains that they were separated as children when a car explosion led them to believe only Austin survived. . His plan to kill his rival, Austin Powers, at a London nightclub in 1967 is thwarted when a crossbow aimed at Powers hits an evil henchmen disguised as a cocktail waitress instead. He escapes by climbing aboard a cryogenic freezing chamber that is launched into space inside a rocket ship shaped like a Big Boy statue. Dr. Evil returns to Earth in 1997 and builds a secret underground lair somewhere outside Las Vegas, Nevada, with the help of his comrade Number 2 (portrayed by Robert Wagner). It is there that Dr. Evil comes up with a plan to intercept a nuclear warhead in transit from a breakaway Russian republic to the United Nations and hold the world ransom for $1 million (an amount he soon learns is not as inconceivable to obtain in 1997 as it was thirty years prior). He has a son named Scott (portrayed by Seth Green) and is constantly at odds with him. The pair tries to resolve their differences by attending therapy, but Dr. Evil has the group liquidated .Character HistoryDr. Evil is a spoof of James Bond's nemesis Blofeld, who appears in a number of 007 films including From Russia with Love, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Diamonds Are Forever. The two share similar characteristics such as a bald head and clutching a white Persian cat, although Dr. Evil's cat loses its hair due to a time-traveling mishap. Dr. Evil's attire resembles that of Blofeld's as well as the titular villain from the first Bond film, Dr. No.It is believed that Dr.Evil's signature move of placing his pinky finger near the corner of his mouth in a sinister fashion is derived from an episode of The Twilight Zone, entitled Number 12 Looks Just Like You , in which a character named Dr. Rex (portrayed by Richard Long) uses the same gesture several times. The move has also been linked to a motion used by Bram Stroker's Dracula. It is also believed that Mike Myers' inspiration for the voice and facial expressions for Dr.Evil was his former boss at Saturday Night Live, producer Lorne Michaels.HideoutsDr. Evil has resided in a number of headquarters since establishing his secret underground lair in the franchise's first installment Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. With the help of Number 2, Dr. Evil moves to the top of the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. He later takes refuge in a volcano on a Caribbean island and then on the moon, which is divided in two units: Moon Unit Alpha and Moon Unit Zappa, the latter being the name of Frank Zappa's daughter, Moon Unit Zappa. In Austin Powers in Goldmember, Dr. Evil takes up residence in Los Angeles, California behind the famous Hollywood sign as well as a submarine.SidekicksDr.Evil is often seen with his cat, Mr.Bigglesworth, or his clone Mini-Me (portrayed by Verne Troyer), who is considered a send-up of Marlon Brando's sidekick in The Island of Dr. Moreau.
