Doug The Thug Glatt is a combination of Tie Domi, Dave Semenko, and Forrest Gump. At the start of Goon, The Thug is a bouncer with a lot of heart but no purpose except trying to please his parents. When he stops a rampaging minor-leaguer from assaulting his friend, he is picked up by his local hockey team as a goon despite having never played hockey. Soon thereafter, he is picked up by a pro team to protect hi s antithesis: Xavier LaFlamme, an incredibly talented player whose career was derailed by injuries and cynicism. During a chase for a playoff spot, Doug fails to protect Xavier who is reinjured. In retaliation, Glatt viciously beats his opponent, falling deeply into the goon world. While suspended, he encounters his tempter: Ross Rhea, a cagey goon who feels forsaken by the hockey world he once loved. During the final game of the season, Doug fights Rhea; inspires Xavier to play with passion; and fulfills his destiny as a true blue hockey player. Show less «
