Detective Mike Lowrey is a detective with the Miami Police Department. He is the longtime partner of Detective Marcus Burnett.Mike is a good cop, but tends to go overboard to prove that he is just as dedicated and skilled as his colleagues. This stems from the fact that Mike's parents were rich and left him a very large trust fund, which he uses to fulfill his expensive tastes in high-end fashion and luxury cars (he drives a Porsche). Mike knows that he doesn't have to work if he doesn't want to, and his coworkers know this as well. This tendency toward overcompensation sometimes gets Mike into tricky situations that could have been avoided, or at least resolved in a less violent manner. It is this penchant for trouble, and his habit of relying on his charm to get both he and Marcus in and out of trouble, that leads Marcus to put in for a transfer to another division, thus ending their partnership.Mike is very fond of the ladies, and is known for his playboy ways. This changes in Bad Boys II when he meets DEA Special Agent Sydney Burnett, who happens to be Marcus's little sister. Mike and Sydney start dating secretly after meeting in New York while both were on a job-related trip, as Mike is afraid of how Marcus would react to the news. However, Sydney tells Marcus about their relationship during a stakeout, which upsets Marcus because he has observed Mike's womanizing ways for years, and does not want that type of man dating his sister. Mike tries to show Marcus that he can be a good man for Sydney, even going so far as to help Marcus rescue Sydney from a vengeful drug lord who kidnaps her to Cuba, when the FBI won't help.Mike considers Marcus to be his best friend, as the two have known each other since high school and when Mike wasn't the suave ladies' man he is presently (back then, he was a band geek with thick glasses, braces and a retainer). He was hurt when he found out about Marcus's impending transfer to another division, and when Marcus told him that Mike wasn't good enough to date his sister Sydney. It is implied that Marcus is the only family that Mike really has, which is why Mike is usually at Marcus's family gatherings and is godfather to Mike's daughter, Meagan. Show less «
