Derick 'Del Boy' Trotter was born to parents Reginald and Joan in Peckham, London some time during the 1940's. Growing up he was never very academic but possessed an uncanny talent of persuasion. This came into play when he applied said talent to the market trade under the banner of 'Trotter's Independent Traders Limited Plc'.Following the birth of his younger brother, Rodney, born nearly fifteen years after him, Del became the sole breadwinner after his mother's death and father's desertion. The third generation of the family, Ted 'Grandad' Trotter did all he could but was never able to provide for the family quite like Derek.Years of wheeling and dealing saw the Trotter's luck change from time to time but they never fully recovered from the loss of the family heads. Del managed to carve young Rodney into a well mannered, polite and some what clever young man, something Derek always prided himself on.Derek and co relocated to Nelson Mandela House, following mother Joan's pregnancy, where they resided first with Reg, Joan, Rodney & Grandad then Uncle Albert and finally Raquel, Del's partner, his son Damien and Rodney's wife and daughter Casandra and Joan.As of 2010 Derek has been portrayed by actors Sir David Jason (Only Fools and Horses) and James Buckley (Rock and Chips) respectively.- Christopher Downie
