David Dave Seville (Jason Lee) becomes the unofficial guardian of Alvin (Justin Long), Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler), and Theodore (Jesse McCartney), three Chipmunks who have accidentally been transported from their forest home to the city. This has its benefiits, as in the aspiring songwriter finally launching his career when he finds the Chipmunks cannot only talk, but sing like angels. However, he finds the Chipmunks are less angelic than mischevious offstage. He finds iit especially hard to keep his temper with Alvin, who often pushes him over the edge, which results in Dave yelllng, AALLVIINN!! to which Alvin replies with a loud, OK!! And being comittment-shy, he consistently rebuffs the Chipmunks' notion that he is their Dad! When a disreputable record producer, Ian (David Cross) -- and a letter Dave thought he'd thrown away -- convince the Chipmunks Dave doesn't want them to live with him anymore, they move in with Uncle Ian. But the Chipmunks eventually discover luxury and no rules can't compare with the kindness and concern Dave showed them. And Dave grows anxious about Ian overworking them, so he rushes to rescue his boys. The question is: Will Alvin and the Chipmunks and Dave be able to reunite as the 'family' now-lonely Dave is ready to embrace . . . or will Ian smuggle them out of the country for a Chipmunk-exhausting world tour?Dave is back in The Squeakquel as the Chipmunks harried but loving guardian. This time he lands in the hospital due to an accident thanks to -- of course -- Alvin! He spends his time healing and worrying about his beloved boys, who, on his orders and with a temporary, unconfident and rather ineffective guard-ian,Toby (Zachary Levi), are attending school, getting involved in sports and a musical competition. They also experience their first taste of romantic love, courtesy of a rival female Chipmunk singing group managed by their archenemy, Ian! But rest assured -- Dave will be on hand when Alvin saves the day and the male and female Chipmunks perform together in an attempt to save their school's music program.
