Count von Count is a rather mysterious character on Sesame Street who has a strange obsession with counting things. He can never seem to look at anything without counting it, and the size and amount means nothing to him, much less how his counting affects his surroundings. When he finishes counting, he laughs maniacally, and, as a bonus, lightning flashes and thunder rumbles.Whether or not the Count is actually a vampire has often been the subject of debate. We do believe he is a distant relative of Count Dracula, in that he wears the typical cape and has two pointy fangs and a rich accent, often pronouncing his Vs as Ws. He rather resembles the Dracula played onscreen by Bela Lugosi in 1931. Plus, like many others of his kind, he shows no reflection in the mirror. In his early days on Sesame Street, he sometimes entered with his cape flung over his nose, and even had the power to temporarily stun those who try to stand in the way of his counting, simply by waving his hands. He does have his fair share of differences, however. First, there are the simple differences of appearance- The Count sports a goatee and wears a monocle. Then there are differences in his habit and lifestyle. For one thing, unlike most other vampires, he does not wither in the sunlight and has been seen outside many times in the show, sometimes even in blatantly hot areas, like the tropical island on which he sang a duet with Harry Belafonte. In addition, he has never turned into a bat, does not drink blood, and sleeps in a bed rather than a coffin. The Count lives in a castle a block away from Sesame Street. It is filled cobwebs and inhabited by bats, which naturally are the Count's pets. He has given them names like Grisha, Misha, Sasha, and Tattiana. He also has a cat named Fatatita. There have been few ladies in his life too. His first girlfriend was a countess named Natasha, who rejected his marriage proposal, which didn't bother him (he simply counted the times she rejected him). Then came the Countess Dahling von Dahling and, most recently, Countess von Backwards, who does just what he does, only in reverse. His mother and brother have appeared briefly on the show was well, although they both appeared fleetingly and without speaking a word. He drives a car called the Countmobile. The Count has appeared in many Sesame-related projects. In one notable instance, he appeared at the end of Follow That Bird to count the film's credits. He counted two-hundred seventy eight altogether.
