Commander Stone Hopper is the older brother of Alex Hopper.. Stone is played by Trueblood's Alexander Skarsgaard.Stone is the highly-respected captain of the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS Sampson, sister ship to both the USS John Paul Jones and the JDFS Myoko. Like his younger brother, Stone is intelligent and capable. Unlike his younger brother, Stone is also responsible, level-headed, and humble, a model officer.*********************************************Spoiler Alert**********************************************************Stone is first seen with his brother celebrating Alex's birthday at a bar in Pearl Harbor, offering to help the unemployed Alex find a job. After Alex is arrested and tazed for breaking into a closed convenience store to get a chicken burrito for a girl he just met (who turns out to be Samantha Shane, daughter of the Commander-in-Chief, Pacific Fleet), Stone is fed up and forces Alex to enlist in the Navy.Five years later Stone commands his own ship, while Alex, having earned a commission and risen to the rank of Lieutenant, is jepaordizing his career by his rash and immature behavior. It becomes clear that while Stone wants to help his brother, he is frustrated by Alex's continued juvenile antics. After Alex gets into a fistfight with Captain Nagata aboard the battleship Missouri during the opening ceremony of the RIMPAC excercise, Stone has to break the news to Alex that he will be discharged after the excercise is concluded. The Sampson, along with the John Paul Jones and the JDFS Myoko are ordered to detach from the fleet and investigate the alien landing. Stone orders the John Paul Jones to send a boarding party to the unidentified object in the water when it doesn't respond to radio hails. After the aliens fire on the John Paul Jones, the boarding party, led by Alex Hopper, shoot at the second alien ship with their boat's mounted M-134 minigun. Stone orders his ship to engage the aliens to cover Alex's escape. The Sampson's 5-inch gun scores a few hits on one of the alien ships before being disabled by alien mortar shells. The Sampson is then hit by dozens more. Stone's final act is to look at his brother in horror before the Sampson is ripped apart, lost with all hands. At the end of the movie, Stone Hopper is posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for his actions, with recently-promoted Lieutenant-Commander Alex Hopper accepting the medal on his brother's behalf.
