From what little we can piece together from Charles Townsend's mysterious life, we know that as a young man, he dabbled in the theatre, then during World War II, served in the OSS. Post-war, Townsend chose law enforcement as his career path and eventually became a beat cop. After years behind the badge, Charlie founded his own private investigation firm, the Townsend Agency, and due to his thick address book, his Agency was never at a loss for work. Unfortunately, success in the PI business lead to him having made many enemies and eventually he decided to become more reclusive and it was at this point that he came up with a very novel idea; instead of him doing the investigating he would hire operatives to do his investigating for him and not just any operatives, but three very attractive women. Sometime in the mid-70's he hired his first set of Angels in the persons of former policewomen Sabrina Duncan, Jill Monroe and Kelly Garrett to whom he would give his instructions to via-telephone. Also, the only person who would have any personal contact with would be his loyal, right hand man John Bosley.A self-made man, Townsend is of notorious wealth and maintains important connections throughout the world in almost every field. Married only once (though we know nothing about the ex Mrs. Townsend), he's quite the ladies' man and enjoys entertaining multiple young women at once.
