Buck Zorba is a young boy obsessed with the morbid. He loves scary stories, monsters, witches, and especially ghosts. Therefore it is a terrific thrill to discover that the house his rich great-uncle willed to his family is haunted. And not haunted with one or two measly ghosts, but with a whole 13! Buck finds the spook glasses that let him see the ghosts and watches a headless lion-tamer do his act, and then search inside the mouth of the ghostly lion to find his head. Later, sliding down the banister, he accidentally finds the money Dr. Zorba left hidden in the house, but he is convinced by the family lawyer, Ben Rush, not to say anything to spoil the surprise. Actually Ben plans to smother Buck and steal the money for himself. But the ghosts have other plans, and Ben runs afoul of his own scheme, while the Zorbas live happily (and haunted) ever after.
