Bobby Hartford (Robert Walker Jr.). is the main protagonist of the film (after the reins were handed to him by the primary-turned-secondary protagonist, his girlfriend Lisa (Gwyne Gifford)). Bobby at first does not believe Lisa's story of a gelatinous monster preying on the rural Los Angeles town (she catches the Blob in the act of devouring the one person responsible its presence in the film in the first place---construction-worker Chester Hargis (Godfrey Cambridge)) .Taking Lisa home for avocado sandwiches, with Monterey Jack cheese... and bacon and a relaxing evening at home, Bobby opens the door to find a surprise birthday party in his honor. Surrounded by music and friends, Bobby believes that Lisa's monster story was simply a ruse to get him to the party on time. But Lisa's obviously not smiling. Unable to convince Bobby, she flees upstairs. Bobby, the best boyfriend alive, abandons his own birthday party to seek out and comfort Lisa (distraught over the existence of the Blob and Chester's death).Soon, however, Bobby himself is rudely introduced to the film's antagonist back at the farm during a tender moment with Lisa in his truck. Barely escaping with their lives, Bobby becomes Paul Revere ; defying the police to desperately warn the town of the Blob's existence. Unfortunately his warnings fall on deaf ears and, on the strangest night of his life, Bobby is forced into a tension-filled cat-and-mouse game against the alien ooze (in a completely Blob-engulfed skating rink) . It soon becomes a contest of man v.s. Blob as Bobby risks eternal oblivion to perform death-defying trapeze artistry on the wires above the Blob-covered ice rink in order to reach and activate the mechanism that finally stops the rampaging lifeform!
