Balok is an alien, who commands the Fesarius, the flagship of the First Federation. The Fesarius is immense, over a mile in diameter with a mass too great for Spock's instruments to record it. Despite this, Balok was the only being aboard it; he commanded the entire complex from a control room aboard a small pilot vessel.Balok has a child-like appearance and dressed in robes of some glittering material, and a circular piece of headgear someone resembling a tiara.When the U.S.S. Enterprise encroached on First Federation space, Balok constructed a series of tests to divine their true intentions and character. When they came to his aid after his ship was apparently seriously damaged, he determined they were people he would befriend, and offered them a tour of his ship.Neither Balok nor his ship appeared again, but there were references to a beverage he relished, tranya, in other Star Trek series, suggesting some form of trade had been established.
