Born in Belgium to a wealthy English banker and baroness mother as Edda Hepburn van Heemstra, her parents divorced when she was nine and Audrey went to London with her mother. During WWII, she would suffer from depression and malutrition in Nazi-occupied Holland. Post-war she studied ballet and modeled unit a film producer saw her. Early bit parts got her noticed by Collette, a French writer and she instantly became her dream choice to play Gigi on Broadway. Mega-stardom came for Roman Holiday.
