Ahmed ibn Fadlan was a 10th century Arab Muslim writer. In AD 921, he was a part of a diplomatic expedition from Baghdad sent by Abdul'Allah al-Mahdi Billah (the Abbasid Caliph) to meet and learn about the Volga Bulgars. He wrote an account of his travels and the people he saw, which remains an invaluable source for the Volga Vikings, in particular his detailed description of a ship burial. Show less «
